Downing Colllege - University of Cambridge

FWD-IP was approached at early planning stages by Downing College and the Architect to assist in the design of the cabling routes as well as advise of existing infrastructure. Downing College was having a new Theatre being built named the Howard Building, this building was being erected over the main fibre and communication route which served 80% of the college, so there was no room for error.

THE CHALLENGES

-College was still open with students attending lectures

– New infrastructure being built over major existing communications routing

THE SOLUTION

FWD-IP completed an extensive audit of all existing services including Fibre Optic, voice and other services so when the pile driving was to start this did not affect the College with their communications in any way.

All cables had to be documented with detailed site plans being submitted with existing cable routes as well as the new proposed routes.

Once the contract was appointed to FWD-IP  the contract the team could then start work. This involved phasing the project to fit in with the College teaching time table as well as being aware of completing the workings with the dead line so the Pile Driving works could commence.
